Alexander Railroad
Located in the western foothills of North Carolina is the shortline
known as the Alexander Railroad. The railroad runs from a connection
with the Norfolk Southern in Statesville, NC 18 miles to the small town
of Taylorsville, NC. The railroad currently has four active locomotives
on the roster, including #3 a General Electric 44-Tonner that sits in Statesville.
The Railroad usually runs with one of its two Alco 100 ton S3's #6
and #7. They also have a EMD S-9 #8. The two Alco's and the
EMD all rest in the railroads shop at Taylorsville, NC.

Typical Traffic & Volume
The Railroad usually runs M-F from Taylorsville to Statesville. The
44-Tonner is often seen working on Saturdays in Statesville during the morning
hours. The train usually runs from Taylorsville to Statesville in
the a.m. and returns to Taylorsville in the afternoon. Alexander hauls
approximately 3,000 cars a year, including cement, lumber, pulpwood, sand
and grain.
