|
January 12, 2005: Portland & Western's GP9 1802:2 will be cut up this week. Any useable parts will supply its remaining locomotive kindred. Here's a brief locomotive history: WPRR 1802:2 was originally built in July 1956 as DRGW 5944 and served Rio Grande until June 1984. In July 1984, the four axle unit was sold to KYLE and retained it original number until April 1987 when it was renumbered AUNW 44 for Austin & Northwestern. This unit joined the PNWR/WPRR roster in June 1998. WPRR 1802:2 was involved in the August 4, 2004 derailment on the Oregon Electric near Albany, Oregon. RIP 1802:2! |

December 26, 2004: Train makes run over Rex Hill! Even though Rex Hill is closed, work trains, trains detoured due to derailments on the OE, or special moves like the National Guard equipment and the new Smurfit switcher to Newberg, still happen on occasion. |
