The station also serves many Metra lines.  Ogilvie Transportation Center, another terminus for Metra trains, is located across the street (Madison Street).  Metra's LaSalle Street and Millennium Park terminus stations are also within walking distance of Union Station.

Chicago is the 3rd largest intermodal port in the world, second only to Hong Kong and Singapore (even surpassing New York City).  Chicago Union Station is at the heart of the Chicago passenger transportation hub as well as Chicago's commercial center. The station is within one block of the Chicago Loop providing easy connections to Chicago L trains, Chicago water taxis, cabs, busses, and limos.  Three international airports are all accessible by from Chicago Union Station or the Chicago 'L' (subway) stops surrounding it.  O'Hare is accessible via the CTA ('L') blue line subway (24/7) and Metra's North Central Service line (weekdays), Midway from the CTA ('L') orange line, and Milwaukee (General Mitchell) from the Amtrak Hiawatha (also departing from Union Station).
