May 15th was a festive day at the Dinsmoor House. Approximately 50 attendees enjoyed tea in the Dinsmoor courtyard.
It was a delightful spring day, and you could not ask for a more beautiful setting than the Dinsmoor courtyard. We were shaded by a large old oak tree.
The tables were decorated with linen, china and fresh flowers. Each place setting had a unique china tea cup. A number of the tea cups were cups presented to friends by Isabel Dinsmoor Putnam. She would often have tea for her friends and present them with one of her tea cups at the end of the festivities.
The tea was served from a beautiful silver tea service loaned by the Rosemead Women’s Club. Then volunteers poured the tea from vintage tea pots, each with a different motive. A buffet was set up, where the guests could choose from a variety of homemade tea sandwiches and homemade tea cookies. There was no lack of choices or food. Everything from the traditional cucumber sandwich, to chicken salad sandwiches, walnut tea sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, and on and on. There was even a donation of Vietnamese spring rolls! Then the sweets! We had a wonderful selection including delicious homemade date bars, Hello Dolly cookies, “100” cookies, traditional shortbread, scones, and many more. Everyone had their fill of traditional high tea favorites.
The guests entered into the spirit of the event, many decked out for tea in brightly colored outfits including beautiful hats. It was wonderful to see many old friends and new.
The flower centerpieces were given to one lucky guest at each table. Each guest received a small recipe booklet, containing the recipes of all of the food served.
In addition, there was an abundance of themed baskets for the guests to bid on. Everything from a sewing basket, to goodie baskets, spa basket, bird lovers basket, pasta basket and many more were available. Everyone got into the fun to see if their ticket had won one of the beautiful baskets.
We hope that everyone who attended had a wonderful time, enjoyed an event reminiscent of times gone by, and received great value for the price of the ticket. We have more events of this type planned for the future.
