INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This question has come up, so I will explain how to alias a locomotive in MSTS to one of my sound sets.

1) First, the obvious step is to download the sound set. *Unzip it to your TRAINSET folder.*

2) Open the MC.SND folder in your TRAINSET folder, and open the sound folder for the sound set you just downloaded.

3) Open the readme in the sound set's folder. Leave the readme open and go back to your TRAINSET folder.

4) Now locate the locomotive in your possession that you would like to alias the sounds to. Open its folder, and look for the engine's ENG file. This file can be opened with Microsoft Word, or Notepad. Once you find it, open it.

5) From the sound readme you left open, look for the area that has the pre-made alias commands. Look first for the EXTERNAL alias!!! Copy the entire line that should look something like this--

Sound ( "..\\..\\MC.SND\\MC_XXXXX\\XXXXXeng.sms" )

6) Now, in the ENG file you opened, go to 'Edit', 'Find', and type in the word "Sound". Hit "Find Next" ONCE.

7) Select the entire alias line after the highlighted word "Sound". Paste the new alias line in.

8) Return to the readme you left open. Copy the line for the INTERNAL alias now, that should look like this--

Sound ( "..\\..\\MC.SND\\MC_XXXXX\\XXXXXcab.sms" )

9) In the ENG file, go to 'Edit', 'Find' again, and type in Sound again. At that sound line, paste in the alias you copied from the readme.

10) Save your changes to the ENG file and you are done.

It is important to note that ONLY MY SOUND SETS come with aliases pre-made in the readme, and I did this to make it easier for folks less familiar with how ENG files and aliasing works. THIS METHOD WILL ONLY WORK WITH MY SOUND SETS!!!

Also worth mentioning-- THERE IS NO NEED TO CREATE A COMMON.SND FOLDER FOR THIS TO WORK. IT SHOULD WORK DIRECTLY FROM THE MC.SND DIRECTORY. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS OR IF IT DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT mcflorack@yahoo.com!!!!!!!!

Good luck to all and happy running!
