We have a great location in Memphis which is approved by the BNSF and UP police. The location is called Kansas Ave. It is located about one half mile east for the Mississippi River railroads bridges. The area is a gravel parking area on the north side of the track about one hundred yards west of the Kentucky St grade crossing. Access is from the Kentucky St crossing via a gravel road along the north side of the tracks. The parking area is on a curve with view of the approach to the river bridges to the west and a mile view to the east. The BNSF and UP tracks pass this location and it is on railroad property. The spot is where Kansas Ave would cross the tracks if the road reached the tracks and a crossing was built. The location is safe, as the Memphis Police special teams office is within view to the west. The SWAT teams and many undercover, drug teams use this office and pass by all the time and know that railfans use this spot. Areas to the east and south are NOT safe. DO NOT go near the River rail bridges as they are guarded and you will be stopped. To the east you can see the CN crossing of a north south line which handles very few trains and Amtrak. Just past the CN is Tower 17 area which is visible and is where NS and CSX tracks end. From Tower 17 east there are 6 tracks running side by side, 2 BNSF, 2 NS, 1 UP, 1 CSX. All visible from Kansas Ave. About 72 trains a day pass or 3 per hour average. Best time seems to be about 4-7PM Jim Ammons Memphis
