If you are feeling really adventuresome, you can
go up CR 117 to Rollins Pass. CR 117 follows
the former right of way that was used before
Moffat Tunnel was opened in 1928. You can not
get all the way to the summit - you will need to
park about 1 1/2 miles east of the summit and
hike the rest of the way. This road used to go
all the way to Winter Park, but was closed in the
early 1990s when Tunnel 32 "Needle's Eye
Tunnel" partially collapsed. Be careful hiking
this area - you are nearly 11500 feet above sea
level and the air is really thin. Don't try to drive
up there unless your vehicle is in really good
shape to handle the thin air. Some people do go
all the way with ATVs, including bypassing the
collapsed tunnel.
