After taking car of a few things today, I finally got trackside. The first train
of the outing was eastbound P030. I wish I could have zoomed out a bit but the bridge for Route 15
would have gotten in the way. It's something I'll have to play with next time.
After a curfew went into effect on track one between the EAS Point of Rocks and the EAS East Brunswick,
Q414 had to run wrong main on track 2. If he only could have been on track one, it would have been a better angle.
Finally got the shot I wanted but wouldn't you know it, the sun wasn't out. Shown is P871 (the first MARC
train of the evening) heading west on track one, about to enter the tunnel. There was a problem with one of
switches from track 2 to track one. So once P781 dropped off it's passengers, he backed up to the WAS East Rocks, where
he crossed over to track 1. He then proceeded to the other switch the leads from track 2 to track 1 and proceeded on
his journey. I also found something interesting about P871. Once he makes his final stop (Brunswick, MD), he pushes back
east, possibly back to Union Station.
The fourth and final train of the outing was Q130 led by a dirty SD70MAC.
While waiting for train just west of the EAS Point of Rocks, I noticed what looked to be spillage
from a freight car. After giving it some thought, it appears that it is from a ballast cleaner and the dirt/grime
that was from the ballast is now plastered on the bridge and the plant life (see below).
More dirt and grime.
