All of Germany's 103s were retired in the spring of 2002. They were brought out of storage to run special trains for Skiers between Frankfurt and the ski slopes in Garmisch. These 'skier specials' were operated as scheduled D-Zug trains during the winter of 2001 / 2002.

103-182 was a stand by locomotive in February of 2002.
103-184, still in the original wine and cream livery, pulls an extra D-Zug out of Stuttgart HBF. The 103's last ran in (semi) scheduled service pulling Skiers trains between Frankfurt and Garmisch.
In the late 1990s, DB put together a "TouristZug" in a colorful blue and gold scheme. 103-220 was the only 103 painted in this livery.
Most of the 103s were painted into Deutsche Bundesbahn (not DB AG) red before they were retired. 103-230 is pulling a Skiers D-Zug towards Frankfurt.
