Pictures: 1992 - 1995: The 521 / 522 (Houston Segment) Days
Amtrak's Texas Eagle runs between Chicago, Illinois and Texas. Prior to 1996, Amtrak's Texas Eagle split in Dallas before 1995, with half of the train going to San Antonio, and the other half to Houston. The Houstion section, train 521 / 522, ran with 1 F40PH, a coach baggage, a regular coach and a lounge car. The San Antonio section ran with 1 F40PH, a baggage car, a crew car, 2 coaches, 1 sleeper and a diner. On days that the Texas Eagle connected with the Sunset Limited in San Antonio, the train carried an extra coach and sleeper, which continued on to Los Angeles. Presently, only the Dallas to San Antonio segment remains, the Houston segment was cut in September of 1995.
The San Antonio section has already been detached and reassembled at Dallas, and is ready to roll south towards San Antonio as Amtrak Train 21.
The Houston train has been assembled, and is seen approaching the passenger platform at Dallas to load and unload passengers.
This is the San Antonio section running through Temple, Texas with 1 F40PH, a baggage car, crew car, 3 coaches, 2 sleepers and a diner. One coach and one sleeper will be interchanged to the Sunset Limited in San Antonio, and will continue on to Los Angeles.
Amtrak's Train 22, the Northbound Texas Eagle arrives in Austin, Texas in March of 1995.
The last Amtrak train 521 arrives in Corsicana with 1 F40PH, 2 coaches, a lounge and a private car.

A 'new' P32 type locomotive, nicknamed 'Pepsi Cans' due to the blend of colors on the side, approaches Austin's train station. The P32s were used as training locomotives for Amtrak, so crews could get used to the desktop style control stands.
Later, the 'Pepsi Can' locomotives were run in pairs, and were exclusivly assigned to the Texas Eagle for several months, as is demonstrated by Amtrak 510 and 500 leading train 22 through downtown Temple. They began to develop mechanical problems, and were replaced with Genesis Locomtives.

One of Amtrak's Genesis locomotives rolls past my strategicly parked S-15 Jimmy. The Genesis engines ran with F40PH's trailing for the first few months. As the F40PHs were slowly retired, they started being replaced by Genesis Locmotives.'
This is Amtrak 22 being pulled by a Genesis / F40PH locomotive set under the 3rd street bridge in downtown Temple.
Pictures: 1997 - The Death of the Texas Eagle (or is it?)
In late 1997, Amtrak's budget was cut by congress, and the Texas Eagle, Desert Wind and Pioneer were scheduled to be cut from Amtrak's schedule. The future looked very bleak, and time was running out. This was the last scheduled run for the southbound Texas Eagle.
