I never head the full story of how Mom got started in piano. Somehow she ended up taking lessons from a local woman, and showed great talent. By the time of her graduation from high school at age 16 (Texas had only eleven grades then,) she was an accomplished pianist. Below is the program for her Senior Recital, performed July 6, 1933 in the Athens High School auditorium. Decades later she could still play some of the pieces. My favorite was the Rachmaninoff prelude in g, Op. 23, No. 5. Alla Marcia! |
