Bill and Genevieve decided to get married. But Genevieve's mother Etta did not approve. She would be "losing" her only child, with whom she was very close. Bill and Genevieve held their wedding in New London in July 1941, with only a few friends, and no parents, present. Mom's bridal photo is the picture on the first page of this section. (The arrival of grandchildren a few years later greatly softened Etta's attitude toward Bill and the marriage.) |
