After leaving Canon City I went to Durango to ride the annual Durango & Silverton fall Photographer's Special.  There were three trains running to Silverton that morning.  Two scheduled passenger runs plus our Special, with white flags flying! The nice thing about the Special is that you get photo runby's of all the trains!

Left, Eng 481 at Durango depot, Friday, September 24, 2004.

First runby of our train at MP485. Sept. 25th.

Another runby of our train as it crosses the Animas River
just South of Silverton, high in the Rockies.  It was pretty
chilly at that altitude in late September!

The 481 train, doubleheader, ready to depart Silverton for the return journey to Durango.

The obligatory stop for the crew portrait at the restored
(but not functioning) water tower at Needleton.

The 486 train, which left Silverton behind us, passes by as
we wait in the hole at Tacoma siding.

Our train, Eng 478, has backed out of the siding and
does a photo run by on the main at Tacoma.
